After more than 49 years in education, Lewis retired from administration in July 2020, having served youth and families as a teacher, coach, counselor, and administrator. He currently works part-time as a middle school counselor. He lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with his wife and family. He is the father of three children, including his late son, Wil, who passed away in 2014.
